A New Place to Play At Ronald McDonald House South Central Ontario
Mountainview Helps Bring The Colamartini Family Playroom to Life
At Mountainview Building Group, we believe that building goes far beyond bricks and mortar. It is about creating spaces that truly make a difference in people’s lives. That belief came to life in a very special way through our partnership with Ronald McDonald House South Central Ontario (RMH SCO) and the opening of The Colamartini Family Playroom.
Ronald McDonald House is more than just a place for families to stay. It is a place to live during some of the most challenging moments they will ever face. Every day, 20 to 30 children call the House “home” while their sibling receives critical care in hospital. In the midst of uncertainty and stress, children still need space to play, imagine, and simply be kids.
When the team at RMH SCO shared their vision for a larger, more vibrant play space, we knew immediately this was something we wanted to be part of.
Together, we transformed several underutilized areas, once a lounge, storage space, and office rooms, into a bright, welcoming environment where joy can take centre stage. The result is the brand new Colamartini Family Playroom, a thoughtfully designed space that brings comfort, creativity, and fun to children of all ages.
The playroom features a colourful ball pit, a climbing wall and slide, craft and creativity zones, a cozy reading nook, a fully turfed sports court, a comfortable parent lounge area, and toys, games, and imaginative play stations throughout.
Since opening its doors, the response has been truly inspiring. At a Light Up the House event, 19 alumni families returned to celebrate, many of whom stayed at the House years before this playroom existed. Seeing their children experience the space for the first time was deeply moving. As one parent shared, “This room is everything we didn’t know we needed back then.”
The playroom proudly carries the name of The Colamartini Family, whose commitment to giving back has been felt across this entire project. Rocco Colamartini and the Mountainview team led the design and build with care and intention, while Joanne Colamartini brought the space to life through her warmth, creativity, and eye for detail.
Mark Basciano, President at Mountainview Building Group, shared, “Choosing the Colamartini name was an easy and meaningful decision. Rocco, Joanne, and our entire Mountainview team absolutely love this mission, and being able to build something that brings comfort and joy to these families means everything to us.”
We are also proud to stand alongside the incredible team at Ronald McDonald House South Central Ontario. Their CEO, Mario De Divitiis, captured the spirit of this project perfectly when he said, “This playroom is more than a beautiful space. It represents what community can do when we come together for families facing the unimaginable.”
Thanks to this partnership, every child who walks through the doors of RMH SCO now has a place to escape, imagine, connect, and heal.
